Why This Review Exists
Apex Trader Funding is the most common prop firm among YMI members — not because of affiliate promotions, but because of results. Cameron has worked with hundreds of traders passing evaluations and managing funded accounts at Apex. This review reflects real experience: what works, what doesn't, and when Apex is the right choice vs. a competitor.

What Apex Gets Right
End-of-Day Trailing Drawdown (Not Intraday)
This is Apex's most important structural advantage. The maximum trailing drawdown ($1,500 on a $25K account) trails from your all-time high balance, but it only updates at end-of-day — not tick by tick during the session. This means: if you're up $1,000 on the day and then give back $600, you haven't affected your drawdown ceiling. Only your end-of-day balance matters for the trailing calculation.
For automated strategies that have intraday fluctuations before closing profitably, this is critical. Tradeify uses the same EOD structure; Topstep trails intraday, which is more restrictive for bots.
Frequent 50–90% Discount Promotions
Apex runs promotions constantly. A $25K account evaluation normally costs $147/month; during common 80% off promotions, it's $29/month. This dramatically changes the risk/reward of multiple evaluation attempts. YMI members often run 2–4 evaluations simultaneously at discounted rates, increasing the probability of passing within a month. No other major prop firm offers this level of promotion frequency.
Native NinjaTrader 8 + Rithmic Support
Apex connects directly to Rithmic — the same data feed used by professional traders and institutions. NinjaTrader 8 automated strategies work natively with Apex's Rithmic connection with zero bridge software required. Setup: create an Apex account → receive Rithmic credentials → enter in NinjaTrader Connection Manager. That's it. YMI's bot templates (Marty, KPL) are pre-configured with Apex-specific daily loss limit parameters.
Multiple Simultaneous Accounts
Apex allows traders to run multiple funded accounts simultaneously with no explicit cap. Active YMI members run 3–8 Apex funded accounts simultaneously with automated strategies, multiplying income without multiplying time. Other firms restrict simultaneous account counts more aggressively.
90% Profit Split
After the first payout (minimum $100, available after 7 trading days on a funded account), the split increases to 90/10 in the trader's favor. The first payout is at a lower split rate, but most accounts hit first payout within 2–3 weeks of funding.
Where Apex Falls Short
Consistency Rule
Apex enforces a consistency rule: no single day's profit can exceed 30% of your total account profit at payout time. If you make $2,000 on one day and your total funded account profit is $3,000, the payout is delayed until the ratio normalizes (you need to make more $1,000 days to dilute the $2,000 outlier below 30%). This catches traders who have one exceptional day early and then struggle to pass the ratio threshold.
Solution: never let a single trading day run excessively. Take partial profits at reasonable targets and stop for the day when you've hit your daily target.
Evaluation Fee Structure
Unlike some competitors, Apex's evaluation fee is monthly and recurring — you continue paying until you pass. If it takes 3 months to pass a $100K evaluation, you've paid 3× the monthly fee. During promotional periods this is manageable. At full price, failed evaluations accumulate cost quickly. Track your evaluation timeline and either pass within a billing cycle or reset/restart strategically.
Scale-Up Program Limitations
Apex's performance-based scale-up offers account size increases, but the requirements (specific monthly return targets and profit consistency) are more restrictive than presented in marketing materials. Many traders find it easier to open additional funded accounts than to scale a single account under the formal program.

YMI Recommendation: When to Choose Apex
Choose Apex when:
- You trade NinjaTrader 8 with Rithmic (native, zero friction)
- You run automated bots that need EOD trailing drawdown (not intraday)
- You plan to run multiple simultaneous funded accounts
- You're willing to time evaluations around promotional discounts
Consider Tradeify instead when:
- You want to avoid the consistency rule (Tradeify has no consistency rule)
- You want a potentially cleaner payout process
Consider Topstep instead when:
- Long-term track record and brand reputation matter to you
- You don't run automated strategies (Topstep's intraday drawdown is manageable for manual traders)
